This is a genuine Mercury/Quicksilver Reed Block Gasket, part number 27-657443. This gasket is installed between the reed block and crankcase/reed block housing and is designed to provide a proper seal in the intake/reed assembly of applicable Mercury and Mariner V6 two-stroke outboard engines.
A properly sealing reed block gasket is important for maintaining crankcase pressure and proper air/fuel intake operation. A damaged, compressed, or leaking gasket can contribute to poor idle, hesitation, or other running issues.
